Staywell Original Dog Flaps Small Medium Large From PetSafe
Available in both plastic and aluminium versions, Plastic doors come in three sizes-small, medium and large. Aluminium dog doors come in 4 sizes-small, medium, large and extra-large.
Plastic doors tend to have rigid PVC flaps that are lightweight and provide vision through the flap. The aluminium doors have a rubber version flap which is more impact-resistant, but some dogs will chew on the flaps.
All these dog doors are classed as two-way locking doors and reduce heat loss if they have internal slide-in panels most are suitable dog flaps for upvc doors.
What are the dor door size options?
Dog doors come in lots of sizes to suit the size of your dog. As with most animals, plan for the full-grown size of your dog. The picture above is roughly to scale; the largest door on the left is the Petsafe 660; the large doors from PetSafe are both the same. The medium PetSafe doors match roughly the Dog Mate large door, which leaves small doors from PetSafe and one door option from Dog Mate between medium and small.
What are the dog door product options?
These doors are a prevalent choice and have been around for decades, originally under the Staywell brand, which the dog-loving people at PetSafe now own. They have aluminium frames and robust hard-wearing rubber flaps with magnets to the lower edge of the flap to keep it closed. The door's internal side has an internal slide-in panel for use during windy or cold weather or when you want your dog to stay in or out.
The 600 series is unique because it includes an extra-large dog door, the PetSafe 660; this is our biggest door available.
On a cold day, the heat loss from any pet door is unmissable, so PetSafe has developed a range of doors to reduce heat loss; these doors have three flaps for winter use; two are standard rubber flaps in the middle flap is thermally insulated. The flaps are adjustable, allowing precise adjustments after the door are fitted to reduce draughts, and there are also internal slide-in panels for very cold days or to keep your dog in or out when required.
These doors are another tried and tested design that's have been around for decades, and they are probably the world best selling dog doors. Cost-effective, they come in three sizes with rigid flaps that have outer U-shape draught excluder frames, and they come with an internal slide-in panel. The other option is these doors come in grey colour in all three sizes.
Dog Mate Door Range From Pet Mate
The door range for dogs from PetMate is very similar to the other ranges except for the small door, which is slightly bigger than the other with a rigid flap, and it's perfect if it needs to be shared with a cat. This door has superframes and clear rigid flaps with slide-in rear panels and has also been around for a very long time. Manufactured by Pet Mate, a UK-based company.
Can I replace a broken dog door flap?
We carry a full range of replacement door flaps from Staywell PetSafe and Dog Mate. We also have some spare parts that may help you make a quick repair to your existing dog door.
Can you fit a dog flap in a glass door?
Yes and no there are smaller doors like the PetSafe 280 door which is designed for big cats and small dogs and suitable for glass doors that may suit smaller dogs. Glass needs a circle cut to allow for the installation of a door through it the larger dog doors need a square hole cut. it's very difficult to do. If your door is two halves of glass it may be better to replace the lower panel with a PVC-reinforced panel which is stronger and easier to cut.
