Manual 4-Way
4-Way Locking Cat Flaps
Give your cat freedom while keeping control over when they can enter and leave your home with our range of 4-way locking cat flaps. These popular manual cat doors provide four different access settings without requiring batteries, electronics or programming.
A 4-way cat flap is an excellent choice if you want more flexibility than a basic open-and-closed cat flap while keeping operation simple and reliable.
What Is a 4-Way Locking Cat Flap?
A 4-way locking cat flap allows you to manually select how your cat can use the flap. Instead of simply choosing between open and locked, you can control entry and exit independently.
The four settings normally include:
- In & Out – Your cat can enter and leave freely.
- In Only – Your cat can come inside but cannot normally go back out.
- Out Only – Your cat can leave but cannot normally re-enter through the flap.
- Locked – Prevents normal entry and exit through the cat flap.
Why Choose a 4-Way Cat Flap?
The biggest advantage of a 4-way locking cat door is flexibility. You can change the setting throughout the day depending on where you want your cat to be.
For example, if you want your cat home for the evening, selecting In Only allows them to return through the cat flap but prevents them from immediately going back outside.
Once they're safely indoors, you can switch the flap to the fully locked position if required.
Simple Manual Operation – No Batteries Required
Unlike electronic and microchip cat flaps, a manual 4-way cat flap doesn't require batteries, a power supply, microchip registration or an electronic collar key.
This makes them a straightforward and economical option for homes where selective entry isn't required.
- No batteries to replace
- No programming required
- No microchip registration
- No electronic components
- Simple manual controls
- Low-maintenance everyday operation
4-Way Cat Flaps for uPVC Doors
Many 4-way locking cat flaps can be fitted into suitable uPVC door panels. Self-lining models are particularly useful because the built-in tunnel can cover the cut edge of the panel and provide a neat finished installation.
Always check the thickness and construction of your uPVC panel together with the cut-out dimensions required by the individual cat flap before installation.
If your door contains double glazing, don't attempt to cut the existing glass. A suitable replacement glazed unit will normally need to be manufactured with the required opening.
4-Way Cat Flaps for Timber Doors
Timber doors are one of the most common locations for a manual cat flap. Depending on the model, installation can be suitable for solid timber doors and other appropriate wooden door constructions.
Check the manufacturer's maximum installation thickness and required cut-out before cutting the door.
4-Way Cat Flaps for Walls
Selected models can also be installed through walls using compatible tunnel extensions or wall liners.
If you're planning a wall installation, check the total wall thickness and whether extension sections are available for your chosen cat flap before ordering.
Different Sizes for Different Cats
Cat flaps aren't one-size-fits-all. Although most standard 4-way cat flaps are suitable for an average adult cat, larger cats may need a model with a more generous opening.
Before ordering, measure your cat and compare their size with the actual flap opening shown in the individual product specifications.
We also stock larger 4-way locking cat flaps suitable for bigger cats and selected small dogs.
Weather-Resistant Cat Flaps
For external doors, many 4-way cat flaps incorporate features designed to help reduce draughts and exposure to normal weather conditions.
Depending on the model, these can include:
- Magnetic flap closures
- Brush or weather seals
- Weather-resistant plastic construction
- Close-fitting transparent flaps
- Self-lining tunnels
If reducing draughts is particularly important, compare the weather-sealing features of the individual models before choosing your cat flap.
Manual 4-Way Cat Flap or Microchip Cat Flap?
A manual 4-way cat flap controls when pets can enter or leave, but it doesn't identify which cat is using the door.
If you simply need control over your own cat's movements, a manual model is often the easiest and most economical solution.
If neighbouring cats entering your home is a problem, consider a microchip or selective-entry cat flap. These are designed to recognise authorised pets before allowing access.
Measure Before Ordering
If you're replacing an existing cat flap, don't assume that another model will fit the same hole. Overall frame dimensions can look similar while the required cut-out sizes can be very different.
Before ordering, check:
- Your cat's size
- Flap opening dimensions
- Required door cut-out
- Overall frame dimensions
- Maximum installation thickness
- Whether tunnel extensions are required
