Important Double-Glazing Installation Information
If you are installing the cat flap into double glazing, a new sealed glass unit must normally be manufactured with the circular aperture already incorporated.
Do not attempt to cut an existing toughened double-glazed unit. Toughened glass cannot be cut after it has been manufactured and toughened.
Give your glazing company the required hole dimensions before ordering the replacement sealed unit and ask them to confirm the final specification against the PetSafe installation instructions.
Installing into Existing Glass Openings
For some smaller existing circular openings between approximately 212mm and 270mm, alternative installation methods using suitable glazing tape or specialist adhesives may be possible.
Because glass construction, spacer bars and surrounding materials can affect microchip performance, existing installations should be assessed carefully before fitting.
Microchip Reading Range
The typical microchip reading distance is approximately 10–12cm from the outside of the flap, although actual performance can vary depending on the cat's microchip position and the materials surrounding the installation.
Metal, steel reinforcement and some components used within doors or glazed units can interfere with radio-frequency signals and may reduce the effective scanning range.
Installation Position
For comfortable operation, position the bottom of the cat flap opening approximately level with your cat's stomach.
